Forgiveness and the Echo of Old Memories

The memories of forgiven incidents keep popping up.
Sometimes, when I am alone, the noise of the past becomes overwhelming.
It leaves me discouraged, downcast, and weighed down with shame.
Flashbacks and intrusive thoughts of old mistakes have a way of draining my courage and dimming my hope for the future.
One day, while praying about these memories that kept resurfacing—even though I knew I had been forgiven—the Lord showed me something deeply healing.
He took me to His canvas.
It was pure white, untouched, waiting.
In His hand was a cup filled with watery, light-blue paint, and inside it was a straw.
He gently handed it to me and asked me to blow bubbles.
As each bubble formed, He caught it. He placed each one onto the canvas.
The bubble would land, pop, and leave behind a soft, blue circle.
We continued until the whole canvas was filled with these delicate blue rings.
Then He spoke.
Each bubble represented something I had carried—
a forgiven incident, a moment of shame, a wound from the past.
To me, each memory felt heavy and dark.
But in His hands, something different happened.
He placed the bubble—full of the memory, the pain, the accusation—onto His canvas.
The bubble burst… and the entire hurt of the incident disappeared.
All that remained was the soft blue circle.
And that blue circle, He said, is forgiveness.
The memory lost its power.
It could no longer speak against me.
I had asked for forgiveness, and He had washed me completely.
Now only the mark of grace remains.
Every circle on His canvas is a reminder that
what He forgives, He cleanses… and what He cleanses cannot accuse me anymore.
